The Conservative Republican Party ( Portuguese: ''Partido Republicano Conservador'', PRC) was a Brazilian political party founded in October 1910 to represent the republican and oligarchic ideals of agrarian elites of states discontented with the domination of the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais (''" café com leite"'') during the República Velha. The Conservative Republican Party (''Partido Republicano Conservador'', PRC) was a Spanish Second Republic, Spanish political party created in January 1932 by Miguel Maura after breaking with one of the new Republic’s main conservative parties, the Liberal Republican Right. In the United States, the Conservative Party refers to a collection of state-level parties that operate independently and advocate for conservative principles. Currently, there is no national Conservative Party. Historically, many of these parties emerged from divisions within the Democratic and Republican parties, supporting a variety of conservative ideologies, including fiscal conservatism, social conservatism, states' rights, and nationalism. Although there has not been a national Conservative Party, the Republican Party currently claims to follow the conservative ideology while actually acting as a nationalist oligarchy, with third parties Constitution Party and American Independent Party following the Paleoconservatism ideology. Conservative Republicans was a designation applied in reference to a faction of the early Republican Party during the American Civil War and Reconstruction era which advocated a lenient, conciliatory policy towards the South in contrast to the harsher attitudes emphasized by Radical Republicans. "Conservatives" such as Pennsylvania senator Edgar Cowan generally opposed efforts by Radical Republicans to rebuild the Southern U.S. under an economically mobile, free-market system.
